DUALEO™

Academy

Learn enough perfumery to make something you would wear.

Free, and open whether or not you own a set. The craft is not a secret — the difficult part was never the knowledge, it was having materials that behave predictably together.

Lesson one

How a fragrance
is built

A perfume is not three perfumes stacked. It is one composition read at three moments, as the lighter materials leave and the heavier ones arrive. Everything you blend is a decision about which moment you want to own.

Top / opening
Bright and volatile. It arrives first and it is gone first — minutes, not hours. This is what people smell when they meet you, and almost none of it survives to the afternoon.
Heart
The body of the composition. It comes forward as the opening fades and it sets the character most people will describe if you ask them what you are wearing.
Base / trail
Heavy, slow, and the last to leave. It gives the whole thing something to stand on — and it is most of what remains hours later, close to the skin.

In DUALEO’s palette, NOVA works at the top, VELA and AURUM through the heart, and NOIR beneath. A blend using only one of them will feel incomplete at some point in the day — which is the whole argument for a palette.

Lesson two

The wheel, and why adjacency matters

NOVAVELAAURUMNOIR
Solid lines join neighbours. Dashed lines cross the wheel.

Perfumery has organised its families on a wheel for decades, and the rule is simple: families that sit next to each other layer naturally; families opposite each other create deliberate contrast.

DUALEO’s four accords are placed in wheel order, so position carries meaning rather than decoration. Four accords give you six pairings, and the wheel tells you in advance roughly how each will behave.

Lesson three

Blending in parts

Professional formulas are written in percentages. Yours are written in parts — a ratio rather than a measurement, so the same formula holds its shape at any scale and you never have to do arithmetic to repeat it.

Work small

Three to five drops per trial. You are answering a question, not making a bottle — and a trial you dislike costs you almost nothing.

Change one thing

Move a single part at a time. Two changes at once and you will not know which one did the work.

Write it down immediately

Scent memory is unreliable and a good accident you cannot repeat is worthless. The Journal exists for exactly this.

A worked example

3 parts NOVA1 AURUM

Bright and warm — it opens fast and settles slowly. Add a single part of NOIR and the same blend gains a floor to stand on. That is one decision, and it changes the whole afternoon.

Illustrative only. The permitted blending range and final scale-up quantities are confirmed by the formulation laboratory before launch.

Glossary

The words perfumers use, without the mystique.

Accord

Several materials blended so they read as one smell rather than a list. All four DUALEO accords are accords, not single ingredients — which is why they behave predictably together.

Base (carrier)

The alcohol-led system that carries your fragrance oils and makes them wearable. Not the same as a base note. DUALEO supplies it developed and ready.

Blending envelope

The range of ratios a laboratory has assessed. Working inside it is what makes guided creation different from improvising.

Parts

A ratio, not a measurement. Three parts to one means three pipette doses to one — the same shape at any scale, which is why you can repeat a formula you liked.

Sillage

The trail a fragrance leaves behind you. Largely set by the heavier accords in your blend.

Maceration

Resting a finished blend so the materials settle into each other. Time does work you cannot rush.

Top / heart / base

Not three separate perfumes — one composition read at three moments, as lighter materials leave and heavier ones arrive.
